Why You Need Mentors in Your Corner!

Hey you, mentors! I’m talking to you!

It took me a long time to realize how life-changing mentorship has been in my life. Today, I really attribute my success to two things.

  • The support of my husband and,

  • The mentors in my life

Mentors have provided me with more than just advice. They embody the resilience that I strive to have. They see in me what I cannot see in myself and they are anchored in wisdom that has propelled me forward. They have shown me it is ok to fail and that I am enough.

I've been fortunate to have many wonderful mentors in my life, and I'm incredibly thankful for them. They often see potential in me that I haven't yet recognized in myself. Great mentors are honest, even when it's difficult, and I've received their candid feedback many times. A work challenge once left me devastated, and I found myself in my mentor's office, upset and in tears. I remember vividly how she slowly put her pen down and looked up at me with her piercing blue eyes. I saw the sadness in her face as she met my gaze.

'You know,' she said, 'I've never met anyone who is as hard on themselves as you are.' That was it. That one simple statement has stayed with me for over ten years. It's etched in my memory, and I've never forgotten the sadness in her eyes. This person continues to be a mentor to me, helping me stay focused on my priorities and remember what's truly important in my life. She is also one of the first to celebrate my successes."

I still remember it; it has been over 10 years since she said it.

The impact of mentorship can be truly profound. These relationships offer guidance, perspective, and unwavering support, shaping not only our careers but also our personal growth.
