What to Do When Life Hits you with a Lemon? You Write a Book!

For many years, in my early 20s and maybe longer; the thought of writing a book lingered in my mind. Fear of judgement held me back. Well, that and I did not have a clear vision about what to write about. That was until the tumultuous sumer of 2023. I was neck deep in the chaos of an up-and-coming business, and managing my husband's terminal illness. In the middle of the chaos, I started to jot down notes about how these personal adversities mirrored many challenges in the workplace.

It became evident that life’s hurdles, failures, and restarts mirror essential life skills. Most of us in fact have faced adversity. Many of us have had to, in fact, start over. Although we may not know it, it's these experiences that hone the soft skills we leverage in the workplace.

Adversity = Soft Skills

Soft skills are the interpersonal attributes you need to succeed amongst others. They are more important today as we as a workforce leverage knowledge, critical thinking and problem solving as often as we leverage technical skills. The demand for soft skills has skyrocketed. Many in the workforce, employees and employers are experiencing a gap.

I've discovered, through adversity, that I have a wealth of soft skills I never knew I had.

Leveraging Life’s Lessons

Your journey through hardship isn’t just a path you've traveled; it's a reservoir of soft skills you can apply positively in your career and community. Adversity trains us to prioritize strategically and to decide whether our experiences shape us negatively or positively. It’s a chance to remove the blindfold of circumstance and embrace the possibility of positive outcomes.

As I venture on this book journey, I invite you to join me—not just as readers, but as fellow travelers enlightened by our trials. Stay tuned and I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
