Three Tips to Keep Your Post-Training Flame Alive

Two women taking notes

Training is not one-and-done and does not stop once learners leave the classroom environment. Continued training engagement after the initial training session is pivotal for long-term retention and behavior change.

Let’s explore three tips to keep your post-training flame alive.

Using surveys and evaluations

Post-course evaluations are helpful but usually only touch on a learner's immediate reaction to the course content. Consider using additional methods of measurement to gauge how learners will apply the knowledge they have acquired. This may include things like

  • Before and after training assessments.

  • A post-training check-in is 60-90-180 days after training.

  • Post-training on-the-job observations.

The Role of Reinforcement

Reinforcement is crucial for making sure newly learned information sticks. Strategies like quizzes, review sessions, and real-life projects help keep new knowledge fresh.

Continuous Improvement Loop

Paying attention to feedback and continuously making changes to training will help to make it more effective. Feedback from surveys, reviews, and watching how people learn shouldn't be ignored; they can also be used to continuously improve training and its outcomes.

Conclusion

The journey of training and development is a perpetual loop of learning, applying, feedback, and improvement. As trainers, our mission is to not only deliver engaging content but also to ensure that the training has a lasting impact on participants!
