The Secret Sauce to Resilience? Sometimes it Tastes like Vinegar!

I happen to like vinegar, but that does not mean I want it with every meal.  Resilient people are not delusional. They are not always happy. Resilience is the innate capacity to face down adversity, shake the dirt off of our shoes and keep marching despite the pain and struggle.

Resilience isn't about pretending everything is fine. It's the ability to face challenges, learn from them, and keep moving forward despite difficulties. In my upcoming book, I explore how I didn't grow up learning healthy resilience. My initial response to problems was often to get angry, fight, and then isolate myself.

This pattern impacted my work life. I would get upset about situations I couldn't control and withdraw instead of finding solutions. It took me many years to realize that mindset plays a crucial role in developing resilience. Negativity can trap us in harmful patterns. My father, despite his abilities, allowed negativity and shame to dominate his life, and he often took out his negative feelings on others.

True resilience often comes from the inner work we do to care for ourselves and prepare for the unexpected. This month, we'll discuss the strong connection between self-care and building a resilient core, which can change how we handle life's challenges.
