(like how I got the nickname "number 1")
If you haven't heard of me, my name is Kellie and I'm the president of Kellie Tinnin Consulting, a Learning, and Development consulting firm based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This month, I thought I’d play a little game of “get to know you”, by sharing some things that maybe aren’t very well known about me.
I lived in Tijeras, New Mexico as a small child. Tijeras, New Mexico is a rural community about 10-15 miles outside of the city of Albuquerque.
I grew up in Yuma, Arizona. Yuma, Arizona is the lettuce capital of the world and is very hot with temperatures reaching nearly 120 degrees in the summertime!
I was in FFA in high school. I was the President of my local high school chapter and I was part of the Arizona Agricultural Sales Team that placed 11th in the nation at the National FFA Convention.
I also raised pigs as part of my supervised agricultural experience project. Sir Ham, Lynyrd, and Beano were the names of a couple of my pigs
I rode horses and was a team roper. Also in high school, I was a healer and team roping with my (step) dad. I am left-handed, but I was taught to rope right-handed.
I worked at Super KMart in high school. Half of the high school students worked there. I worked in the layaway department and would study in the bank when it was slow.
I was told by a high school counselor that I was not “college material.” Guess they would be surprised now that I have a master's degree!
It took me three times to pass a probability math class in college. For some reason, the probability was just not my forte.
I was close to my grandparents growing up, and they lived about 5 minutes away. I would always spend time with my grandmother growing up and even as a young adult. My “granny” and “grandpa” have since passed away.
I was a marketing consultant for a newspaper in college. It was a fun job with way too much responsibility as a young 20-year-old! That whole newspaper was run by 20-somethings.
I moved back to Albuquerque to work for my dad. My dad had a construction company and background. I moved back to New Mexico to help him run his business. We went from 1 - 5 million dollars in gross revenue and 2-15 employees in 18 months.
My dad died when I was 25. My dad passed away from heart failure when he was 49. I’m 41 now and while I enjoy my 40’s, I admit turning 49 scares me.
I like old folk music. Yes, I love Peter, Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, and Smothers Brothers to name a few. I grew up listening to folk music with my grandparents and it reminds me of Christmas.
I started dating my husband after having “too much” to drink at a friend's wedding. Yes, it's true. We had known each other for many years. I was sick the next day and he stayed with me. I thought if I didn’t date him I was stupid. We have been married for almost 11 years. He is my person. If I wanted to fly to the moon, he would find a way to get me there.
I got the nickname “number one” from my mother. I am the firstborn child in my family. I have one younger sister. Her nickname is “Meghan Faye.” The funny thing is Faye is not her middle name, Meghan is.
Hopefully, you've enjoyed learning a bit more about me. I know that I've enjoyed writing it. If there's a specific question you'd like to know, email me or leave me a comment. If you would like to learn more about how I can help make a measurable difference in your organization, reach out!
