Why the US Government Needs a New Strategic Plan and What I Would Focus On: Measurement

In this final of my series this month, I’m zeroing in on measurements for success. As I like to think, “if you cannot measure it, it did not happen.”

 

It’s critical to ensure that action items of a strategy are in direct alignment with strategic objectives. Key performance indicators will help the government team position themselves to assess if their efforts are contributing positively towards shared goals.


Change happens when the strategy is clear and measurable objectives and action items clearly define what success looks like and a way to measure success has been defined.

 

Accountability should be at the forefront for any Government team, which includes making the strategy and measurable indicators accessible to the general public. Additionally, creating a method for feedback to refine the strategy is essential for keeping the plan relevant and agile.


Regular evaluations will ensure the strategy remains aligned with the objectives. Making this process iterative informs future planning but also fosters transparency and accountable within the Governmental team. A plan that truly serves the citizens.
